Accept your Family invitation and install Office

Your order gives you a place in a Microsoft 365 Family subscription. You accept the invitation with your own Microsoft account, and then every Office app and OneDrive is yours to use. It takes about five minutes.

What you need

  • The invitation link from our e-mail
  • A Microsoft account – or you create one for free along the way
  • An internet connection

Step by step

  1. Open the invitation link

    Within 24 hours of your order we send you your personal invitation link by e-mail. It usually starts with https://aka.ms/ or https://account.microsoft.com/. Ideally open it on a computer.

  2. Sign in with your Microsoft account

    Sign in with the e-mail address of your Microsoft account (for example Outlook, Hotmail or your own address). No account yet? Click “Create one” – it is free. If you are already signed in, the page goes straight to step 3.

  3. Click “Join now”

    Microsoft shows the invitation to the family group. Check at the top right that you are signed in with the right account, then click “Join now” (sometimes “Accept”).

  4. Wait for the confirmation

    After a few seconds Microsoft confirms that you are in. From now on Microsoft 365 belongs to your account – with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote and OneDrive.

  5. Install Office

    Open microsoft365.com, sign in with the same account and click “Install” (Windows or Mac). On iPhone, iPad and Android, get the “Microsoft 365 Copilot” app or the single Office apps from the App Store or Google Play.

  6. Sign in to Word – done

    Open Word and sign in with the same account (Windows: File › Account › Sign in; Mac: Word › Sign In). “Product Information” then shows “Microsoft 365” – Office is activated.

Good to know

Your files, e-mails and notes stay private. The subscription owner only sees that you belong to the group.

Already in another family group? Leave it first at account.microsoft.com/family – an account can belong to only one family group.

Term: 12 months from the day we send you the invitation link. If your own Microsoft 365 subscription is still running, you can ask us for the link later – the 12 months only start then.

Stay a member of the family group. If you leave the group yourself, you lose access to Microsoft 365.

If something does not work

The link says “invitation invalid” or “expired”

Invitation links are personal and only valid for a limited time. Just reply to our e-mail – we will send you a new link.

Word shows “Unlicensed Product”

Sign out of Word and sign in with the account you used to join the group, then restart Word. If that does not help, remove older Office versions and reinstall Office from microsoft365.com.

I accepted the invitation with the wrong account

Write to us which account Microsoft 365 should run on. We remove the wrong account from the group and send you a new invitation.
